Organic urban and school gardens must be cultivated in an ecological way avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers. In order to complement the projects on urban and school gardening, we are promoting a Vermiculture Project which will supply the gardens with worm compost and it will also:
- Promote environmental education by involving the plot users in the vermiculture methodology and by encouraging the spread of new knowledge on the matter through research and experimentation.
- Help recycle organic waste into non-polluting natural fertilizers (worm compost).
- Reduce environmental pollution by avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers, being in accordance with the project of urban and school gardens, linked to organic gardening.
- Create new forms of involvement and participation of the urban and school garden users.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
By breeding worms and processing their organic waste in order to transform it into fertilizer and ground proteins This is a natural decomposition process, similar to composting, where organic matter is not only degraded by microorganisms (fungi, bacteria, actinomycetes, yeasts…) found in nature but also by the worms’ complex digestive process. Earthworms are the major catalyst for decomposition, eventually turning into a very rich fertilizer widely used by farmers.
WHO IS IT AIMED AT?
All Organic Urban and School Garden users in Altea.
