The cultural heritage of a town is of the utmost importance, since it constitutes a fundamental part of its history, its wealth and identity. Public administrations and the population in general should assume the responsibility of protecting it and ensuring its preservation in time, for present and future generations to use it and benefit from it. They should also show respect for the specificity, the importance and the essential values of each of these goods as documents, objects and meanings to society.
In this respect, one of the objectives of the Agricultural Council is to adopt measures for the conservation of the documents, archives and goods related to the agricultural activity as it has been developed in the recent past (canal irrigation systems, ditches, etc.) and to the traditional knowledge concerning the cultivation and irrigation procedures, which are unfortunately being lost due to the introduction of new agricultural and watering techniques. On top of that, the Agricultural Council aims to diversify Altea’s tourism offer (which is nowadays reduced to a “sun and beach” type of tourism) by providing our visitors with opportunities to involve in rural tourism activities and thus, helping stimulate the city’s economic activity.
